Wanuri Kahiu, director of the award-winning short film “Pumzi” at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010 brings with Rafiki the very first Kenyan feature film at the Festival !

“Good Kenyan girls become good Kenyan wives,” but Kena and Ziki long for

something more. Despite the political rivalry between their families, the girls resist

and remain close friends, supporting each other to pursue their dreams in a

conservative society. When love blossoms between them, the two girls will be forced

to choose between happiness and safety.

2010 Sundance Film Festivali’nde ödül alan kısa film “Pumzi”nin yönetmeni Wanuri Kahiu, Cannes Film Festivali’ne Kenya yapımı filmi Rafiki ile katılacak.

“Kenyalı iyi kızlar, Kenyalı iyi eşlere dönüşür”, ama Kena ve Ziki bundan fazlasını istemekte. Aileleri arasındaki politik düşmanlığa rağmen, kızlar muhafazakâr toplumda hayallerini gerçekleştirmek için birbirlerini destekleyip arkadaş kalmaya devam ediyor. Aralarında aşk filizlenmeye başladığında, güvende olmak ve mutluluk arasında bir seçim yapmak zorunda kalıacaklar.

She is a film reviewer and reporter who works with national newspapers, magazines and film criticism sites. She is a member of FEDEORA (Federation of Film Critics of Europe and the Mediterranean) She writes television formats and drama scripts, she also interests of acting in movies and had a supporting role in The Class of Chaos Goes Abroad. Her family is in the industry since 1963. Their family company Arzu Film one of the most important film production companies in Turkey. It is established by her grandfather Ertem Egilmez who is a very famous director. She's granddaughter of Ertem Egilmez and niece of director Ferdi Egilmez. In the near future she would like to work with a Spanish and American television channel as a format and script writer. Her plan for the far future is to be a director of full length movies.
